Poker is a card game played by two or more players. It requires a lot of luck and psychology but also some strategy and math. There are many different variations of the game but in most forms, players aim to make a five-card “hand” using a combination of their own two personal cards and the community cards that are dealt on the table. The player with the highest ranked hand when all the cards are revealed wins the “pot” – all of the chips bet during that deal.<\/p>\n
Depending on the rules of the specific game, one or more players may be required to place an initial amount of money into the pot before the cards are even dealt (these are called forced bets). Once the cards have been dealt, each player must either call any bet made by the person to their left in turn or raise that bet. If a player cannot call a bet or raise it, they must drop out of the betting and discard their hand.<\/p>\n
During each betting interval (showdown), the dealer changes to the person on their left. If the dealer is not changing, the person on their right has the button, which means they get to bet last during that round. If a player has the button, they must say “I call” when it’s their turn to bet.
